In the Asia Cup final, India defeated Sri Lanka badly on the basis of the strong bowling of Mohammad Siraj. This is India’s eighth Asia Cup title. The game started late due to rain after the toss. After deciding to bat first, the Sri Lankan team completely disintegrated.
Mohammad Siraj destroyed the batting order. He dismissed four top batsmen in a single over. Because of this the Sri Lankan team collapsed on the score of 50.
Later, India easily won the match in the seventh over without any loss. With a stunning performance, Siraj demolished the Sri Lankan batting line-up. His figures of 6/21 in just seven overs were nothing short of sensational.
For this reason, Sri Lanka was out for only 50 runs in 15.2 overs in this important title match. Indian captain Rohit Sharma did not even start the innings and he sent Ishan Kishan along with Shubman Gill.
Jasprit Bumrah gave the first blow to Sri Lanka in the very first over. Star Indian fast bowler got significant movement in cloudy weather and opener Kusal Perera lost his wicket. The ball took the outside edge of the bat, which was caught by KL Rahul.
After that Mohammad Siraj wreaked havoc on the Sri Lankan innings. He dismissed four batsmen one after the other in the fourth over of the innings. Siraj became the first Indian bowler to take four wickets in an over in ODI. Siraj got success on the first, third, fourth and last ball of the over.
Sirat made Pathum Nissanka, Sadira Samarawickrama, Charith Asalanka and Dhananjay de Silva his victims. De Silva stopped Siraj from completing the hat-trick, but he could not avoid being out on the last ball.
Siraj took five wickets in his next over and equaled Chaminda Vaas. He became the fastest player to reach this feat in ODI (2.4 overs). Hardik Pandya (3/3) took the remaining three wickets of the innings. After this, Ishan (23*) and Gill (27*) had no difficulty in chasing the modest target.
India performed brilliantly this time in the Asia Cup. During which the team registered a big win of 228 runs over arch-rival Pakistan in the Super Four, after which it defeated Sri Lanka by 41 runs in a dramatic game.
Even in the absence of its five key players including Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj, the team lost to Bangladesh by a small margin. India will now return to action on October 22 when it takes on Australia in a three-match home ODI series just ahead of the World Cup.
