Anil Sharma directorial Gadar 2, starring Sunny Deol, Ameesha Patel and Utkarsh Sharma in the lead roles, performed brilliantly at the box office. The movie, released on August 11, is still making waves in theatres.
The sequel of Gadar is now in its final stages and is struggling to cross the Rs 524 crore mark.
It was being said that Sunny Deol’s film will break the record of Shahrukh Khan’s Pathan. However, considering the slow earnings, this seems quite difficult. Pathan, directed by Siddharth Anand, is currently the highest-grossing Hindi film.
According to early estimates from industry tracker Sacknilk, Gadar 2 earned only Rs 60 lakh on Monday, taking the total collection to Rs 520.60 crore.
The total occupancy (early estimate) of the film on 18 September was 12.77%. Gadar 2 was released on 11 August. The film had competition at the box office with Akshay Kumar-Pankaj Tripathi starrer OMG 2.
Gadar 2 director Anil Sharma talks about his film, which will likely surpass Shahrukh Khan’s Pathan. Anil Sharma had said, “I do not believe in numbers. Pathan has done exceptionally well, even KGF (Chapter 2) has done very well, and now, Gadar 2 is also doing well.
He said, now let’s see how far Gadar 2 goes, how far the public takes it. This is a people’s film. We have already crossed the Rs 400 crore mark, in the coming weeks it will reach Rs 500 crore and perhaps at some point of time it will also cross the Rs 1,000 crore mark.
He further said, we are trying to make a place in the hearts of the people. People are watching it and liking it. This is enough for us. Whatever (box office) figures have come out today are real. Nothing is fake.
Many fans want to watch Gadar 2 again, there is good news for them, because this movie is going to come on OTT soon. According to OTT Play, ‘Gadar 2’ is scheduled to premiere on ZEE5 on October 6, 2023.
This film is the sequel to ‘Gadar: Ek Prem Katha’ released in 2001. Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel reprise their roles as Tara Singh and Sakina respectively in the second installment. The period action drama also stars Utkarsh Sharma.
