Subrata Roy Success Story: Sahara Group chief Subrata Roy passed away on Tuesday night at the age of 75 (Subrata Roy Passed Away). He breathed his last at Kokila Ben Ambani Hospital in Mumbai. It is being told that Roy was suffering from illness for a long time. He was suffering from metastasis, hypertension and diabetes for a long time. As his condition worsened, he was admitted to Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital and Medical Research Institute (KDAH) on 12 November. He died on November 14 at 10:30 pm due to cardiorespiratory arrest. Subrata Roy, born on 10 June 1948 in Araria district of Bihar, came from a landlord family. His ancestors were residents of Dhaka, Bangladesh. After independence the Roy family came to India. The focus of father Sudhir Chandra Roy and mother Chhavi Roy was on Subrata Roy’s education. But, he was average in studies right from the beginning. Subrata Roy was educated in Araria (Bihar), Kolkata (West Bengal) and Gorakhpur (Uttar Pradesh). At the same time, Subrata Roy started his career by selling namkeen on a scooter in the streets of Gorakhpur. After this he continued climbing the stairs of success. At one time, Sahara Group’s business extended to real estate, finance, infrastructure, health care, hospitality, retail, information technology, media, entertainment and airline sectors. Within no time, Subrata Roy had become the owner of property worth billions of dollars. According to a 2014 BBC report, Subrata Roy also owned the Plaza Hotel in New York and the Grosvenor House in London. Apart from this, he was also the owner of Formula One racing team. At one time Sahara Group was the owner of IPL’s Pune franchise. After this there came a time when he had to go to jail.
