The meeting was chaired by Congress MP Jairam Ramesh and its agenda was the development of a vaccine for Kovid-19 and the genetic chain of the corona virus and its variants.
Sources said that when several opposition MPs expressed their willingness to ask questions about the Centre’s vaccination policy, including the gap between two doses of vaccines, BJP MPs strongly opposed it and some demanded adjournment of the meeting and a walkout. did .
Sources said that BJP MPs were of the opinion that vaccination campaign is going on in the country and this is not the right time to raise the issue as it may affect the vaccination process.
He told that the chairman of the committee Jairam Ramesh said that the meeting should be held according to the agenda. When BJP members were adamant on the demand for adjournment of the meeting and wanted to vote on it, Ramesh rejected it outright and said that the Standing Committee meeting is held on the basis of consensus.
According to sources, Ramesh was of the view that even if this was his last meeting as the Speaker, the voting would not take place. Opposition MPs emphasized that they too have the right to question, because as MPs they are also accountable to the public.
