New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday said that the process of delimitation and peaceful elections are major milestones in the restoration of full statehood in Jammu and Kashmir. He said this after the all-party meeting of the political parties of Jammu and Kashmir with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The PM discussed the state with the leaders of Jammu and Kashmir for about three and a half hours today.
After the meeting, Amit Shah tweeted, “Today’s meeting on J&K was held in a very cordial atmosphere. Everyone expressed commitment to the Constitution and democracy. Emphasis on strengthening the democratic process in J&K Given. We are committed for the all-round development of Jammu and Kashmir.”

In his second tweet, he said, “The future of J&K was discussed and the process of delimitation and peaceful elections are important milestones in restoring statehood, as promised in Parliament.”
Most of the political parties involved in the all-party meeting with the PM raised the demand for restoration of full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir and conduct of assembly elections at the earliest. Extending his hand for talks with the political leadership of Jammu and Kashmir for the first time in the last nearly two years, Prime Minister Modi held an important meeting with 14 leaders of the Union Territory to prepare a blueprint for the future strategy.
This is the first such meeting, which was chaired by Prime Minister Modi himself, after the removal of most provisions of Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir and bifurcation of the state into two union territories.
