New Delhi: India’s indigenous aircraft carrier, INS Vikrant, will be ready in early 2022. Vikrant’s sea-trials are going to start in the next few months. High officials of the Kochi Shipyard and the Indian Navy gave detailed information in this regard to Defense Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday.
Defense Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday visited the Navy’s Southern Command in Kochi and the Kochi Shipyard during a two-day visit to take stock of the construction work of indigenous aircraft carrier Warship Vikrant. During this, he was accompanied by Navy Chief Admiral Karambir Singh and Southern Command Commander, Vice Admiral AK Chawla.
When INS Vikrant is fully ready, the Navy will prove to be the deadliest weapon in the sea. MiG-29K fighter jets, Kamov helicopters, anti-submarine helicopters, MH-60R and indigenous advanced light helicopters will be deployed on Vikrant.
INS Vikrant will offer an incomparable military instrument with the capability to perform long-range air power projection, which includes Air Interdiction, Anti-Surface Warfare, Offensive and Defensive Counter-Air, Airborne Anti-Submarine Warfare and Airborne Early Warning.
Addressing the Marines in Kochi, the Defense Minister said that during the Galvan Valley violence with China along the LAC last year, the Indian Navy by pro-active forward deployment had given a clear indication that India wants peace but will not face any challenge. ready to face.
The Defense Minister once reiterated that in the near future the Indian Navy will become the third largest Navy in the world. At present, out of 42 warships of the Indian Navy being built in different shipyards, 40 are being built in India itself. India currently has an aircraft carrier, INS Vikramaditya, which was taken over from Russia in 2013. China also currently has an aircraft carrier, but the construction of two indigenous aircraft carrier warships of China is going on very fast.
The Defense Minister is on a two-day visit to Karwar (Karnataka) and Kerala. On Thursday, he reviewed the Indian Navy’s Project Shipbird at Karwar near Goa. On completion, Karwar will become Asia’s largest naval base. Rajnath Singh is scheduled to return to Delhi by this evening.
