New Delhi: Chandni, daughter of Dana Majhi, a tribal farmer from Kalahandi district, who made headlines by walking about 10 km with his wife’s body about 5 years ago, has cleared Odisha’s high school examination this year. The results of the examination were declared on Friday evening.
In August 2016, Dana Majhi’s eldest daughter Chandni was walking with her father who was carrying the body of his wife Amangdei on his shoulders to their village 10 km away. Due to lack of money, he could not arrange any vehicle. At that time 12-year-old Chandni was walking with her father crying. Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik was criticized in India and other countries after the pictures of this incident surfaced.

On Friday, there was an atmosphere of happiness in the family as Chandini became the first member of the family to clear the matriculation examination. Out of 5,60,000 examinees in the state, about 98% have passed the high school examination. Achyuta Samant, MP from Kandhamal of Biju Janata Dal (BJD), took the responsibility of educating Majhi’s three daughters including Chandni and got it done at Kalinga Institute of Social Science in Bhubaneswar. He expressed happiness over the success of Chandni.
