As per the scheme, the spouse of the beneficiary should be a corona virus positive patient at the time of death and this should be certified by the state-level Covid Death Audit Board. The description of the scheme mentions, “The beneficiary should belong to a low-income family with an annual income of up to Rs 5 lakh.”
However, it has been said that the widows of government employees will not be covered under this scheme, as they get family pension as per normal norms. According to the National Health Mission (NHM) bulletin, a total of 4,403 people have died due to Kovid-19 in Assam.
The NHM also said that 1,347 more COVID-19 patients have died, but the death audit board of the government has not included them in the number of deaths due to the virus as they also had other diseases.
