Shimla: An unmarried mother abandoned her newborn child near ‘Oakover’, the official residence of Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur. Giving information, the police said that the woman was apprehended a few hours after the incident.
He told that the police managed to trace the woman and reached her house. The police traced the woman on the basis of blood stains that fell on the road. He said the woman had dropped her newborn son early on Saturday near Kamala Nehru Hospital (KNH), which is very close to Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur’s residence.

A member of Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur’s security force heard the cry of the abandoned newborn boy and informed the police. Police from Chhota Shimla police station admitted the child to Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital for treatment, where he is said to be out of danger. He said that the woman was apprehended within about five hours.
At the same time, a case was registered against the woman under Section 317 of the Indian Penal Code (abandonment of a child below 12 years of age). In the case, the investigating officer, assistant sub-inspector Ranjana Sharma told that the woman has been admitted for KNH treatment. After recovery, he will be produced in a competent court.
