New Delhi: The Supreme Court today issued a detailed order on relief to migrant workers. The court has ordered to continue providing free ration and food to the migrant laborers till the epidemic lasts. Apart from this, the court has asked the central government to prepare a national portal for the registration of workers in the unorganized sector by July 31. The court has also ordered to complete the registration of workers by December 31 this year.
Center’s attitude ‘unforgivable’
Despite a clear order in 2018, the court has expressed strong displeasure over the non-preparation of a national data base of unorganized workers so far. A bench of Justices Ashok Bhushan and MR Shah has said that 94 percent of the total employees of the country are workers in the unorganized sector. Many of them work in other cities or states. This poorest section of the society has been waiting for a long time to get recognition. Register it. So that he can take advantage of the schemes made for him. In such a situation, the lax attitude of the Ministry of Labor and Employment is inexcusable. This shows that he is not concerned about the migrant workers.
Advice to Delhi and other states
free ration to be available till the pandemic
The Supreme Court said that the states should plan for the distribution of this ration so that it can be delivered to the needy. The court has also said that this system of rationing and providing free food through community kitchens should be continued as long as there is a pandemic.
