New Delhi: After India’s fourth vaccine against Corona, Kovishield, Covaccine and Sputnik, Moderna’s mRNA vaccine has now been approved for emergency use by the Drug Controller General of India. This vaccine is expected to be available in India soon. This will be India’s first foreign vaccine which has got approval for emergency use in India. On Tuesday, India’s Drug Controller DCGI has given approval to Cipla Company to import and market Moderna’s Corona Vaccine in the country.
With this, India has got the first foreign corona vaccine. Foreign because the clinical trial of this vaccine has not been done in India. Like the other three vaccines have happened from Covishield, Covaccine and Sputnik. Sputnik is also a Russian vaccine but its trial has been done in India, after which it has been approved in India. In April this year, the government had decided that any vaccine that has been approved for emergency use by the US, UK, Japan, European Union or WHO can be applied in India. At the same time, for this, they will not have to do clinical trials as before.
According to the Ministry of Health, this vaccine can be kept from minus 25 to minus 15 degrees for seven months. In the same 2 to 8 degrees, this vaccine can be kept for a month. It has two doses which are given in 4 weeks. At present this vaccine will be imported but the government hopes that soon it will be made in India like Sputnik.
At present, there are three vaccines against the corona virus in the country, which are being used in corona vaccination. So far, more than 33 crore 79 lakh doses of corona vaccine have been given in the country. According to the data released by the Union Health Ministry, 33,25,81,423 vaccine doses have been given in India so far. So far 8,99,01,981 people have been given the first dose and 20,81,948 people have been given the second dose in 37 states and union territories.
The nationwide vaccination campaign was launched on 16 January and the vaccination of frontline workers started on 2 February. The next phase of corona vaccination started from March 1, in which people above 60 years of age along with people above 45 years of age who have serious illness started vaccination. At the same time, vaccination was started for every person above 45 years of age from April 1. Vaccination of people between 18 and 44 years started from May 1. Whereas from June 21, the introduction of free vaccination to people above the age of 18 years started.
