New Delhi: The European Union (EU) has announced its ‘Green Pass’. Travel restrictions have been relaxed under the scheme. At the same time, India has requested the 27 member states of the group to consider separately on allowing Indians who have been vaccinated against Kovidshield and Covaccine to travel to Europe. European Union’s Digital Covid Certificate Scheme or ‘Green Pass’ The scheme will come into effect from Thursday, allowing free movement during the COVID-19 pandemic. Under this framework, people who have received authorized vaccines through the European Medical Agency (EMA) will be exempted from travel restrictions within the EU. Individual member states also have the freedom to accept vaccines that have been authorized nationally or through the World Health Organization.
A source said, ‘‘We have also conveyed to EU member states that India will also pursue a similar mutual exchange policy for recognition of EU digital COVID certificates.’’ There have been apprehensions in India that people who have got Coveshield and Covaccine will get the ‘Green Pass’ of the European Union. will not be eligible to travel to its member countries under the scheme.
