About six MLAs are considered as possible contenders for the leader of the legislature party. These include MLA and cabinet minister Satpal Maharaj from Chaubatakhal, Dhan Singh Rawat, MLA from Srinagar and Pushkar Singh Dhami, MLA from Khatima.
A group of party leaders has also suggested the name of former Chief Minister and Doiwala MLA Trivendra Singh Rawat.
