New Delhi: Information Technology Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad has praised him for publishing his first compliance report on automatic removal of objectionable posts by social media platforms like Google, Facebook and Instagram under the new IT rules. And called it a big step towards transparency.
Under the new Information Technology (IT) rules, large digital forums with more than 50 lakh users will have to publish compliance reports every month, mentioning the complaints received and the action taken on them.
Google reported that it and YouTube had received 27,762 complaints from users in India in April this year for alleged violations of local laws or private rights, and as a result removed 59,350 content (posts, photos, videos and comments). p>
