New Delhi: Affidavit in the Delhi High Court on behalf of the controversial social media platform Twitter in the matter of non-compliance with the guidelines issued by the Central Government regarding social media platforms, OTT platforms and digital media. It was informed that the company is soon going to appoint a grievance officer in India. This affidavit given by Twitter is also important because Twitter is constantly being accused that it is not following the Indian law and the guidelines of the Central Government. For this reason, it is neither appointing Grievance Officer in India nor is appointing other officers as per the guidelines.
On February 25, the central government had issued new guidelines for social media platforms, OTT platforms and digital media and had given 3 months to all companies to follow it, which has expired on May 25. In these guidelines, it has been said to appoint other officers including Chief Compliance Officer, Nodal Officer and Grievance Officer in India and to comply with Indian law. The companies which do not follow these guidelines issued by the Central Government, the exemption which they had got till now is over. Due to that exemption, no criminal case could have been registered against such companies till now. Because Twitter has not yet followed the guidelines of the Central Government. Because of this, criminal cases have also been registered against Twitter in different parts of the country during the last few weeks.
