Srinagar: The National Conference is likely to take a decision today on the party’s participation in the proceedings of the Delimitation Commission in Jammu and Kashmir. Giving this information, a party leader said that the party’s national president Farooq Abdullah will announce the decision of the National Conference in this regard.
The party leader said that the National Conference discussed this issue on Saturday. Participating in the proceedings of the commission, two meetings were held at the National Conference headquarters in Srinagar under the chairmanship of party general secretaries Ali Mohammad Sagar and Nasir Aslam Wani. The leader said that suggestions were taken from all the party leaders regarding the matter and later the party president Farooq Abdullah was apprised.
Delimitation Commission was constituted in March 2020
Former Supreme Court Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai is heading the Delimitation Commission constituted in March 2020 to delimit the Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha constituencies of Jammu and Kashmir, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur and Nagaland. Chief Election Commissioner Sushil Chandra and Election Commissioners of Jammu and Kashmir and three states are ex-officio members of the commission.

The issue of delimitation was discussed in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s meeting with the leaders of Jammu and Kashmir last week. Modi had insisted that the delimitation exercise should be done quickly so that elections can be held. It is noteworthy that the Commission has invited leaders of all parties for separate meetings during its visit to the Union Territory next week.
