Petrol diesel prices increased due to higher taxes
Oil companies executives attribute the steady rise in fuel prices to growth in global oil markets, where product and crude oil prices have been rallying strongly for the past few months in line with demand growth amid slowing pace of the pandemic. . However, a closer look at retail fuel prices in India gives a picture that it is the high level of taxes that keep fuel rates high even at a time when global oil prices are stable.
Petrol prices crossed 100 rupees in many parts
Globally, the price of crude oil is now around $ 75 per barrel. It was more than $80 a barrel in October 2018, but still, petrol prices were around Rs 80 per liter across the country. Therefore, now despite the low oil prices, petrol prices have crossed Rs.100 in many parts of the country and have now exceeded it by a wide margin.
The only way to bring down retail prices in this period is through tax cuts by both the Center and the states, experts suggest as crude oil prices seem to be rising from here. Fuel prices are already touching new highs every other day.
