New Delhi: The ruling Congress in the state is grappling with internal strife ahead of the assembly elections in Punjab next year. The party high command is trying to resolve this discord at the earliest.
In this connection, today Chief Minister Amarinder Singh met Congress President Sonia Gandhi. This meeting lasted for more than an hour. During this, Mallikarjun Kharge, the chief of the committee formed to resolve the Congress discord, was also present.
After the meeting, the CM said that every decision of the Congress President will be accepted. Everyone will fight the election together. When asked if Navjot Singh Sidhu can be given a bigger post… to which Amarinder Singh said, “I don’t know about Sidhu Saheb. Have discussed about the work of your government. We have discussed political issues also. Whatever decision will be taken from here for the party or anything else, we will accept whatever the Congress President wants.
It is believed that during this meeting of Sonia Gandhi and Amarinder, the formula to remove discord in the Punjab unit of Congress has been discussed. This is the first meeting of Amarinder Singh with the Congress high command after the crisis started in the state Congress.
Congress sources say the party high command is trying to quell the discord in Punjab and unite the party ahead of the assembly elections, due a few months later, with a formula of respectable status for both Chief Minister Amarinder Singh and former minister Navjot Singh Sidhu. Has been doing.

Former minister Navjot Singh Sidhu had a long meeting with former Congress president Rahul Gandhi and party general secretary Priyanka Gandhi on Wednesday. Sources said that in these meetings, efforts were made by the Congress high command to persuade Sidhu by offering him a respectable position in the party or organisation.
According to sources, consideration is going on to give Sidhu an important responsibility in the organisation. There is also an option of making the President of the State Congress Committee, although it is also discussed that Amarinder Singh is not in favor of handing over the command of the State Congress to his opposition leader.
The Congress high command had recently constituted a three-member committee headed by Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge to resolve the crisis in the party’s Punjab unit. This committee held discussions with Amarinder Singh and more than 100 MLAs, MPs and leaders of the State Congress.
Congress general secretary and state in-charge Harish Rawat had said recently that all issues in Punjab would be resolved by July 8-10. According to sources, a few days ago, through the committee, the Chief Minister was asked by the high command to prepare a framework for the 18 issues on which the state government has to take action. These include the issue of action against the land and transport mafia and those involved in the sacrilege of the Guru Granth Sahib.
In the recent few weeks, Sidhu and some other Punjab Congress leaders have opened a front against Chief Minister Amarinder Singh on various issues including electricity. Sidhu says that till now no action has been taken in the sacrilege of Guru Granth Sahib and effective steps have not been taken to curb corruption.
