Kolkata: During the excavation of a septic tank of an under-construction house in West Bengal, three laborers died due to poisonous gas leak. While another laborer became seriously unwell. The incident is of Jhamtiya Gram Panchayat Dharmapota village under Amta of Howrah. According to police sources, all the laborers are residents of Birbhum.
According to information received from the local people, the laborers were working on an under-construction house in Dharampota village. He was working on digging a septic tank. Then the poisonous gas started leaking, due to which a laborer became seriously unwell and he suffocated.
An official involved in the rescue work said, ‘We have been told that they were working under the new septic tank. They had gone down to break the wood, but they were not aware of the poisonous gas present there. Seeing the other two not returning, the third person went there. In this way all three died.
Unwell laborer admitted to hospital
“One person has been injured,” the officer said. He is in the hospital now and we are going to examine him. We are sure that the death was caused by poisonous gas and there cannot be any reason. After investigation, it has been found that there is still some gas left at that place. The laborer who became unwell was taken to Amragari Vividhir Rural Hospital. He is being treated there.
