Chandigarh: Two army personnel have been arrested for allegedly spying for Pakistan’s intelligence agency Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). Punjab Police gave this information on Tuesday. The accused have been identified as constable Harpreet Singh (23) and constable Gurbhej Singh (23). While Harpreet was posted in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag and was associated with the 19 Rashtriya Rifles, Gurbhej was serving as a clerk in Kargil and was in the 18 Sikh Light Infantry.
Gupta said that during interrogation Ranveer Singh revealed that he obtained these documents from Harpreet Singh who is his friend. Both are from the same village. He alleged, ‘‘Ranveer lured Harpreet Singh to give monetary benefits for sharing confidential documents related to defence, after which Harpreet also involved his friend Gurbhej Singh in such anti-national espionage activities. ’’
An official statement here quoting the DGP said that since Gurbhej was working as a clerk in the 121 Infantry Brigade Headquarters in Kargil, he could have easily accessed these confidential documents containing tactical information related to the Indian Army.< /p>
