New research can be encouraging to get more and more people vaccinated. The Indian Council of Medical Research has found that two doses of the Kovid-19 vaccine can provide 95 percent protection against death due to the disease, and a single dose is 82 percent effective in preventing death. The research has been published in the Indian Journal of Medical Research.
Two doses of vaccine give 95% protection against death
ICMR researchers said, “It is important to increase the coverage of the Kovid-19 vaccine, regardless of the type of vaccine, in order to reduce the mortality rate during the current as well as future Kovid-19 epidemic.” The research was done on 117,524 policemen of Tamil Nadu Police Department. During this, he either did not take any dose or at least one dose of vaccine was applied. “In conclusion, our analysis indicated that COVID-19 vaccination, even single-dose, was effective in preventing death,” the researchers said.
Evaluation of both doses of Kovid-19 vaccine in research
The Tamil Nadu Police Department has documented the date of vaccination and hospitalization of its members during the second wave, along with deaths related to COVID-19. The data was used to estimate the incidence of death due to Kovid-19 between policemen who have used the vaccine and those who did not get the vaccine. According to the research, to evaluate the risk of death associated with Kovid-19 vaccination, the incidence of death was compared between vaccinated and not vaccinated. 117,524 policemen were working with the police department in Tamil Nadu.
This year between February 1 and May 14, 32,792 policemen were administered one dose, on the other hand 67,673 policemen took two doses of the vaccine while 17,059 personnel did not administer any vaccine. Research revealed that 31 deaths due to Kovid-19 were registered between April 13 and May 14, out of which four policemen had taken two doses, 7 had one dose and the remaining 20 policemen did not take a single dose. The incidence of death related to Kovid-19 among the vaccinated policemen was zero. Comparative risk of death due to COVID-19 between one dose and two doses, respectively, compared to those not vaccinated! was 0.18 and 0.05. The effect of the vaccine in preventing death from one dose and both doses respectively! 82 percent and 95 percent were found.
