Kolkata : BJP MP Babul Supriyo is among the ministers who resigned before the expansion of the Modi cabinet. Babul Supriyo said in a Facebook post that he is very happy that there was no stain of corruption on him during his tenure. He also congratulated some leaders of Bengal who joined the Union Cabinet. With this he said “I am definitely sad for myself.”
Babul Supriyo shared his pain on social media shortly before Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s cabinet expansion. He wrote on Facebook, “Yes, when there is smoke, there must be a fire somewhere. I am not able to take the phone calls of my friends in the media, so let me tell it myself… Yes, I have resigned from the Council of Ministers (I had earlier framed it as ‘asked to resign’, but this may not be the correct way to say it.) Supriyo’s Facebook post is said to have asked him to step down I went.
No allegation of corruption – Supriyo
Supriyo further wrote, “I thank the honorable Prime Minister for giving me the opportunity to serve my country as a member of his council of ministers. I am extremely happy that today I am serving the people of my constituency without any stain of corruption. Served. People of Asansol made me MP again in 2019 by winning margin of three times votes”
Sad for myself, but happy for the new ministers
Supriyo said, “My best wishes to those who are being made ministers from Bengal. I am certainly sad for myself, but very happy for the people who are becoming the new ministers.” Supriyo won the 2014 general election from the Asansol seat of Bengal and was made a minister of state in the central government. Five years later, he again won from Asansol and became a minister at the Centre.
