The cabinet of Prime Minister Narendra Modi was expanded and reshuffled on Wednesday. On Wednesday, 43 leaders took oath as ministers. In this, 15 leaders took oath as cabinet and 28 as ministers of state. After the expansion of the cabinet, the question is arising in the minds of many people that what is the difference between cabinet and minister of state.
Actually, there are three types of ministers in the Union Cabinet of the country. These include cabinet ministers, ministers of state and ministers of state with independent charge. In these, according to the power, the cabinet ministers come at the top. After the cabinet minister, the minister of state with independent charge comes second and the minister of state is at number three
Cabinet ministers are the heads of their ministries. They are directly responsible for the ministry for which they are given the responsibility. They can also be given the responsibility of more than one ministry. They participate in the decisions of the government and usually they are involved in the cabinet meeting held every week. The government decides its decisions like ordinances, making new laws, amending laws etc. in the cabinet meeting itself and cabinet ministers are part of it.
Minister of State (Independent Charge)
Ministers of State with independent charge report directly to the Prime Minister. He is also called junior minister. They have full responsibility towards the ministry and department allotted to them. They usually do not attend cabinet meetings. On special occasions, the cabinet meeting can be called to discuss the issues of the ministry.
The Minister of State works under the Cabinet Minister and reports to him. In a way, they are assistant ministers to the cabinet minister. There can be more than one minister of state under a cabinet minister. There are many departments in a ministry, which are distributed to them, so that they can help the cabinet minister in running the ministry.
