Kolkata: Several BJP leaders from Bengal have resigned after PM Narendra Modi’s biggest cabinet reshuffle since assuming office in 2014. Which has raised serious questions of struggle between the saffron party in Bengal. BJP state president Dilip Ghosh has targeted many of his colleagues for resigning or commenting on social media. Notable among them are Rajiv Banerjee, former BJP leader Soumitra Khan and Babul Supriyo.
TMC leader Kunal Ghosh has targeted the central government and said, ‘No word came out of his mouth about touching the price of petrol at Rs 100. He is busy with his party’s equation to capture power in a different state. The change of Union Health Minister proves that he failed to contain the situation of Kovid. My curiosity is that who will read the reply of the letter sent through the then Health Minister under the influence of Shubhendu Adhikari?’
Advice not to attack CM Mamta
TMC leader Rajiv Banerjee, who joined BJP from TMC, had advised his colleague Shubhendu Adhikari not to attack Mamata Banerjee, claiming that she had the mandate of the people. Instead of criticizing Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee, he encouraged her to be on the side of those affected by rising petroleum prices. He tweeted, ‘Now the only goal should be to reduce the prices of petrol, diesel and LPG so that the misery of the common man can be reduced. The Chief Minister should not be attacked unnecessarily, under whose leadership the people of Bengal have voted for his candidates in 213 seats.
On the other hand, Dilip Ghosh targeted Rajiv Banerjee and said, ‘Some people cannot decide what to do and where to go. This is his personal problem. The party has no such problem. He is not even a party official. All those who have come from outside have not realized this yet. They do not have the patience to say their problem in the right place. This is common in the party in which he has worked. Every person there is a different party. We have only one party here.
On Rajiv Banerjee’s tweet against Shubhendu Adhikari, who joined BJP from TMC, Kunal said, ‘Those who left TMC before the elections have made a mistake. Without him TMC has won. At the same time, Rajiv is saying the true things. TMC won 213 seats for Mamata Banerjee. If Shubhendu Adhikari attacks personally, there are good orators in his party too.
Soumitra Khan resigns and withdraws
At the same time, Soumitra Khan, president of the West Bengal BJP youth wing, also tendered his resignation. He has resigned in protest against not being upgraded for the post of minister. Actually, there are more than 35 criminal cases against him. At the same time, the party has performed well in his parliamentary constituency. Interestingly, he is also the husband of Sujata Mandal, who won from Arambagh on a TMC ticket after parting ways with the party and her husband in the assembly elections. However, by the end of the evening, Saumitra Khan withdrew his resignation. “On the direction of our BJP leaders BL Santosh ji, Amit Shah ji and Tejashwi Surya ji, I withdraw my resignation as an honor,” he said.
Babul Supriyo resigns
Apart from this, BJP MP Babul Supriyo resigned before the cabinet expansion and said, ‘I was forced to resign.’ BJP MP Babul Supriyo said in a Facebook post before the cabinet expansion that he is very happy that he did not get any stain of corruption during his tenure. With this he said, ‘I am definitely sad for myself.’ Babul Supriyo wrote on Facebook, ‘Yes, when there is smoke, there is definitely a fire somewhere. Today I am not able to take phone calls of friends, so I thought I should tell it myself. Yes, I have resigned from the Council of Ministers (I was asked to resign earlier, but this may not be the correct way of saying it).’
The way BJP leaders left their hands after the announcement of cabinet expansion and expressed their displeasure, the TMC commented, ‘What we told about them before the elections is what their party members are saying now. Mainly what Rajiv has said about Shubhendu, we told that earlier he joined BJP to save himself from ED, CBI.
Since the elections in Bengal, there is an atmosphere of tension in the BJP. Be it posters against Bengal in-charge Kailash Vijayvargiya or Mukul Roy’s homecoming in TMC. Posters were put up against the party’s Bengal in-charge Kailash Vijayvargiya from the BJP office in Kolkata to the airport. In these, Go Back-TMC setting master was written for Kailash. Apart from Kailash, there was also a picture of Mukul Roy.
Kailash has not been seen as active in Bengal since the results of the assembly elections were declared on May 2. During this, he has not come to Kolkata even once. Kailash, who was involved in all the meetings of the party before the election, has not even participated virtually in any meeting after that. Apart from this, he is not talking much to journalists especially on Bengal elections and its results.
Mukul Roy, considered close to Kailash Vijayvargiya, had once again returned to the TMC on June 11, leaving the BJP. In 2017, the hopes with which Mukul Roy had joined the BJP, leaving Mamta’s side, could not be fulfilled even after four years. This is the reason why he has returned home again.
