Petrol Diesel Price Hike: Petrol and diesel prices continue to rise. Opposition parties are constantly raising questions on the policies of the government. Meanwhile, today Hardeep Singh Puri took over as the Petroleum and Natural Minister. Puri has replaced Dharmendra Pradhan in this ministry.
Government petroleum companies today increased the price of petrol by 35 paise per liter while diesel by nine paise. Fuel prices may vary in different states due to local taxes and transportation expenses etc. With the new increase in the prices of fuels, their prices have reached a new high.
What did Hardeep Puri say?
After assuming the post of minister, Puri said that he would make any comment on this subject only after getting complete information from the officials. “Give me some time. I need to get information on the subjects. I have just stepped into this building (ministry), so it would be wrong for me to say anything on it (fuel price),” he told reporters.
The price of petrol, which has already crossed the Rs 100 mark in more than half the country, increased to Rs 100.56 per liter in Delhi and Rs 106.59 per liter in Mumbai. At the same time, the price of diesel increased to Rs 89.62 per liter in Delhi and Rs 97.18 in Mumbai.
Puri, a former diplomat, said, “My formal training has been in an area where comments are not made without full knowledge.” Puri, a 1974-batch Indian Foreign Service officer, has been appointed as a minister at a time when the country is grappling with a rise in fuel prices. “As we move towards becoming a $5 trillion economy, availability and consumption of energy will be of paramount importance. My focus will be on increasing domestic production of crude and natural gas,” Puri said.
Apart from Puri, Rameswaram Teli has taken over as the Minister of State for Petroleum. The outgoing minister Pradhan was present on the occasion of taking over of the new ministers. In the reshuffle made in the cabinet, Pradhan has been made the Minister of Human Resource Development and Skill Development.
