World Population Day 2021: Today July 11 is World Population Day. World Population Day is celebrated every year on this day for the purpose of population control. Population explosion in the country has affected our development the most. The bigger the population of the country, the bigger the problems. Therefore, it is very important for us to reduce the increased population. Whether it is the world or the population of India, it is necessary to control it for long-term development and equitable distribution of resources.
In fact, it took thousands of years for the world’s population to reach 1 billion, but after that the population increased by 7 times in just 200 years. In 2011 the world population also crossed 7 billion. According to estimates, the world population will be 8.5 billion by 2030, 9 billion by 2050 and 10.9 billion by 2100. This increase in population occurs because the number of individuals reaching reproductive age is more. Significant change in fertility rate due to rapid urbanization, rapid migration is also the main reason for increase in population. Since the world does not have resources for such a population, population control is necessary.
History of Population Day
On July 11, 1987, the world’s population reached 5 billion. The United Nations expressed concern over this. After this, on July 11, 1989, a program was organized in the United Nations to control the growing population and to make people aware of family planning. With this, World Population Day was celebrated for the first time. A resolution was passed in the United Nations to celebrate this day as Population Day. Various programs are organized to spread awareness on World Population Day.
Significance of Population Day
Population control measures are discussed on this day every year. This day is celebrated to make us aware of the problems we face due to the increased population and the damage it causes to the ecosystem and humanity. From gender equality, family planning, poverty, civil rights, mother and child health, use of contraceptive drugs to sex, all serious topics are discussed. India is the second largest populated country in the world after China. In this era of Kovid-19 epidemic, we have understood the ill effects of increased population. The lack of medical resources has put many people to sleep in this epidemic. Therefore population management is important not only for the country but also for the world.
