New Delhi: UP ADG Prashant Kumar has made a big disclosure on the arrest of suspected terrorists from Lucknow. He said that today the ATS has foiled a big terrorist conspiracy. He told that two terrorists associated with Al Qaeda-backed Ansar Ghazwatul Hind have been arrested.
ADG said that today the ATS has arrested two terrorists. He told that the Indian Subcontinent Module of Al Qaeda was announced on 3 September 2014 by the then Al Qaeda Chief Al Zawahiri. He told that then its head was Maulana Aseem Umar, who was from Sambhal in Uttar Pradesh. Prashant Kumar told that he died on 23 September 2019 in the US and Afghan operation.
“Since his death, the Uttar Pradesh module of al-Qaeda was being run by a man named Umar Halmundi. These activities are being conducted from the Peshawar-Quetta area in the Pakistan-Afghanistan border area,” he said. He said that a module of Al Qaeda was set up by Umar Halmundi by identifying and appointing jihadi people in Lucknow.
There was a conspiracy to attack before August 15
He said, “This module was prepared to carry out terrorist incidents. Its key members are Minhaj, Masiruddin and Shakeel. Their names have come to the fore. These people, on the instructions of Umar Halmundi and with the help of their other comrades, committed suicide on August 15. Earlier, in various cities of Uttar Pradesh, especially in Lucknow, they were preparing to carry out terrorist acts by blasting important places, monuments, crowded areas, human bombs etc. For this arms and explosives were also recovered.
The ADG said that other associates of Lucknow and Kanpur are also included in this gang of suspected terrorists. He said that there was information that these people can carry out a terrorist incident anytime in Uttar Pradesh, especially in Lucknow. After the information, the ATS team was investigating. In the raid of the ATS, a huge quantity of explosives and a pistol were recovered from the house of accused Minhaj. The IED recovered from the house is being deactivated.
