Water Crisis In Delhi: Due to the falling water level in Yamuna river in Delhi, there has been a shortage of water in many areas. A series of allegations and counter allegations are also going on between the Delhi government and the Haryana government regarding this. But in the midst of all this, it is a matter of relief that 16 thousand cusecs of water from Haryana has now been released for Delhi. Giving information, Deputy Chairman of Delhi Jal Board, Raghav Chadha has said that Haryana government has released 16,000 cusecs of water from Hathnikund barrage towards Delhi which will reach Delhi in next 3-4 days.
Raghav Chadha said that a situation of water crisis has arisen in Delhi as the Haryana government withheld 120 MGD of water to Delhi’s rights. After that the Delhi Government and Delhi Jal Board continued to struggle, kept working hard and made every effort to bring water to the homes of the people. Also, we tried to put pressure on the Haryana government. We talked to the Haryana government several rounds. Even filed a petition in the Supreme Court for the rights of Delhiites and for their right to water.
Water will reach Delhi in 3-4 days
The Delhi Jal Board vice-president said that soon after the petition was filed in the Supreme Court, the Haryana government has released 16,000 cusecs of water from Hathnikund towards Delhi. Now this water will reach Delhi in the next 3 to 4 days. After that the water crisis in Delhi will end and clean drinking water will reach people’s homes. He said that Delhi is a land-locked city and depends on neighboring states for its water supply.
“Water comes to us from Uttar Pradesh through river Ganga, from Haryana through Yamuna river and from Punjab through Bhakra Nangal. Today Delhi has been successful fighting for its rights. I want to congratulate the people of Delhi that due to your struggle and hard work, today the Haryana government was forced to give water to Delhi as it deserves. I express my regret for the trouble that the people of Delhi had to face.
Let us inform that the Delhi Jal Board had alleged that Haryana has cut the fixed limit of water supplied to Delhi by 120 MGD. Due to which the level of Yamuna river at Wazirabad Pond which should have been 674.5 feet has come down to 667 feet.
