Mumbai: One person who has kept the politics of Maharashtra hot these days because of his statements is Nana Patole. Maharashtra Congress chief Patole keeps targeting Shiv Sena and NCP, the power partners in the Thackeray government, every day. Due to which discussion breaks out in the political circles that there is a difference of opinion among the constituents of the Thackeray government and the countdown of the government has started.
The political career of 58-year-old Nana Patole has always been in the news. From 1999 to 2014, Patole has been an MLA by winning elections three times in a row. In the year 2014, he contested from Bhandara-Gondia seat on a BJP ticket and was elected MP by defeating NCP candidate Praful Patel by 1.5 lakh votes, but he did not last long as an MP. He sounded the bugle against the working style of PM Modi. Patole had said that Modi used to behave disrespectfully with the MPs of his party. After this he resigned from the post of MP and from BJP.
became the speaker of the assembly
After leaving BJP in 2018, he joined Congress. In October 2019, he again became an MLA after winning the election from the Sakoli assembly seat. In the same year, when Shiv Sena-NCP-Congress’s Maha Vikas Aghadi government was formed, Patole was made the speaker of the assembly. Patole used to work strictly as a speaker. Recently he resigned from the post of speaker and was made the chief of Maharashtra Congress. As soon as he came to this post, Patole started targeting the allies of the Thackeray government. Patole’s aggressive attitude sparked a discussion in political circles whether the Congress wanted to withdraw support to the Thackeray government.
After becoming the state Congress chief, Patole’s statement created controversy that the Congress would fight the next elections alone. This statement of Patole was in contrast to Sharad Pawar’s statement in which he had said after the formation of the government that the three parties would fight all the coming elections together. In fact, Pawar wanted to implement the Maharashtra model against the BJP for other states and the Center as well.
What is the latest controversy?
Patole’s latest controversy arose when he recently addressed party workers in Lonavala. Patole said that CM Uddhav Thackeray and Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar are monitoring me. They know what I’m doing. Patole said that this is being done because NCP and Shiv Sena are scared. Congress is getting stronger on the ground. Targeting Ajit Pawar, Patole also said that he is the minister in charge of Pune but does not do the work of Congress workers. He appealed to the workers to save their anger so that the minister in charge of Congress can come to Pune. When there was a controversy over this statement of Patole, he said that his statement was taken in the wrong context. They were targeting BJP because their phones were being tapped during BJP’s tenure.
Even before the latest controversy, Patole has said that the ruling alliance in Maharashtra is not permanent. It has been made only to keep BJP away from power. Congress will fight alone in the coming times. On the other hand, neither the other leaders of his party are taking Patole’s statements seriously nor are the Congress and NCP’s. It is certain that Patole’s statements give an opportunity to the opposition BJP to surround the Thackeray government. In political circles, some people call Nana Patole as Digvijay Singh of Maharashtra, who remains in the discussion due to his statements.
