Dushanbe: External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar today met his Afghan counterpart Mohammad Hanif Atmar in the capital of Tajikistan in Dushanbe and discussed the recent developments in Afghanistan.
Jaishankar arrived in Dushanbe on Tuesday on a two-day visit to attend meetings of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and the SCO Liaison Group on Afghanistan.
Jaishankar tweeted, “My visit to Dushanbe began with a meeting with the Foreign Minister of Afghanistan Mohammad Hanif Atmar. Appreciated his updated information regarding recent developments. Looking forward to tomorrow’s meeting of the SCO Contact Group on Afghanistan.

The meeting assumes significance as it is taking place at a time when Taliban fighters are increasingly taking control of much of Afghanistan, which has raised concerns globally.
India has evacuated around 50 diplomats and security personnel from its consulate in Kandahar in a military plane in the wake of fierce fighting between Afghan forces and Taliban fighters.
