India China Standoff: Former Congress President Rahul Gandhi demanded a discussion on issues related to the country’s strategic interest in the meeting of the Standing Committee on Defense. Rahul said that the work of the committee is to discuss such topics which are directly related to the security of the country.
Rahul Gandhi made this demand in the meeting of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Defense Ministry held today. The agenda set in the meeting was to review the functioning of the Cantonment Board across the country. Apart from the officials of the Ministry of Defense, officers of the Cantonment Board also attended the meeting. According to sources, after the meeting went on for more than an hour, Rahul Gandhi made his point.
Rahul Gandhi demanded from the chairman of the committee and BJP MP Jual Oraon that the committee should discuss mostly those issues which are directly related to the strategic interests of the country.
Rahul Gandhi said that it is not right to spend too much time on subjects like reviewing the functioning of the Cantonment Board. He demanded discussion on issues like India-China border tension and withdrawal of Taliban in Afghanistan in the committee meeting. Rahul said that both these issues are related to the strategic security of the country. Sources said that the opposition MPs present in the meeting agreed with Rahul Gandhi’s point.
However, the chairman of the committee said that the agenda of today’s meeting was already decided and the officials related to it have been called, so today the same topic can be discussed. In such a situation, in today’s meeting only the already fixed topic was discussed.
