The government said on Friday that the recent slow decline in cases of corona virus infection is a warning. Although the situation is still under control, it can worsen if the rules related to Kovid are not followed. At the same time, the government also mentioned that the next 100-125 days are important for both the system and the people.
NITI Aayog member (health) Dr VK Paul said that the possibility of a third wave remains as the population is still very vulnerable to infection. “We have not yet reached the stage of community immunity…we don’t want to get infected by getting community immunity,” he warned. We are making progress in vaccines and about 50 percent of our most at-risk group, people over the age of 45, are protected. It will also reduce the mortality rate, but there may be spread of infection. We can come under infection. The virus is still around us.
Paul said that the next 100-125 days are important. He said, “We need to be careful… we have seen that the decline in the cases of infection has slowed down and this is a warning to us but the situation is still under control. It could get worse. There are some measures (compliance with the rules related to Kovid) which are being talked about. If we use them, the third wave will not come.
“If we all decide, there will be no third wave. If the vaccination campaign goes ahead… in three, four months, there is a possibility that a safe zone will be created. But the next 100-125 days are important, both for the system and the people. We have to be careful.”
The ‘R-factor’ has recently increased as new concerns arise due to the re-emergence of the epidemic, which has slowed down the reduction in active cases. Kerala and the northeastern states have emerged as areas of concern. This has been said in the analysis of Chennai-based Institute of Mathematical Sciences. The R-factor gives an indication about the pace of spread of the infection in the country. Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Health, Luv Agarwal said that the cases of Kovid have come down but there are still some concerns.
He said, “The rate of confirmation of corona virus infection in 47 districts of 12 states and union territories is more than 10 percent. These include Manipur, Kerala, Rajasthan, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Sikkim, Tripura, Assam, Maharashtra and Puducherry.” He said that more than 100 new cases were reported daily in 73 districts.
He said that the slow reduction in the daily cases of Kovid-19 is a warning to the country that the situation is under control but if the rules related to Kovid are not followed then the situation may worsen. At the same time, Paul said about the availability of modern vaccine of Kovid in the country that talks are on.
