New Delhi: Orthopedic surgeon and Padma Shri awardee Dr Ravindra Narayan Singh was on Saturday elected as the new President of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP). Singh, who hails from Bihar, was till now the vice-president of the organization. He received the Padma Shri in 2010 for his contribution to the field of medical science, the fourth highest civilian award in the country.
Jain said, ‘‘Kokje’s age is now 82 years. He wanted to be relieved of his duties as VHP President. The elections have been held according to their wishes and our Constitution.’’ He said that Singh is a well-known bone surgeon and he is known for his contribution in social, religious, medical and various other fields. He said, ‘‘Election of such a person as VHP President is a matter of pride for all of us.’’
