New Delhi: The body of Pulitzer Prize winning Indian photojournalist Danish Siddiqui reached Delhi from Afghanistan late Sunday evening. His body was taken by his family from Indira Gandhi International Airport to his house in Jamia. After which the family and his close ones paid tribute to him and everyone said goodbye to Danish Siddiqui with moist eyes.
Photojournalist Danish Siddiqui was covering the ongoing war between Afghanistan and the Taliban in Kandahar’s Spin Boldak. He was assassinated while covering a fierce battle between Afghan soldiers and Taliban militants. The news of his murder that came on Friday shocked people not only in India but all over the world.
After waiting for about 2 days, his body was brought from Afghanistan to Delhi. As soon as he came to know that his body was being brought to Delhi, people started gathering outside his house in Jamia. In which not only his family members and his family members were present but also his friends, neighbors and many media companions reached.
People said goodbye to Danish with moist eyes
Danish’s body reached Delhi from Afghanistan by Air India flight at around 6 pm on Sunday where his body was handed over to his family members. After which his family members brought his body to his house in Jamia at around 8 o’clock in an ambulance. A large number of his acquaintances were already present at Danish Siddiqui’s house. People said goodbye to Danish with moist eyes.
Only family members were present inside the house and some close people. After this, paying the last tribute to Danish at around 9:30, he was taken to Jamia Cemetery to be handed over. Where his prayers were performed at Jamia Ground in which a large number of people were present.
Lost a great journalist in India – Ramdas Athawale
Danish prayers were taught in Jamia School, after which he was handed over to Jamia Cemetery itself. At Jamia School, there was a large gathering of people who met Danish to bid their last farewell. Where along with his acquaintances, Ramdas Athawale also came to pay tribute to Danish. He said that India has lost a great journalist.
People only wanted to get a glimpse of Danish but the family told people that Danish’s face could not be shown and on seeing Danish everyone said goodbye to him. But the memories of Danish Siddiqui and his work will always be alive in people’s mind and people were seen getting emotional remembering him.
Danish had a special attachment to Jamia
Let me tell you, Danish was a student of Jamia Millia Islamia. Danish Siddiqui did his Masters from this university and his father Akhtar Siddiqui was the Dean of the Faculty of Education at the University. Siddiqui studied at AJK Mass Communication Center (MCRC) in the year 2005-2007 and his association with there was great.
