IPL News: The Governing Council of the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Tuesday decided that the last two matches of the league phase will start at the same time at 7:30 pm. There are usually two matches in a day. The first starts at 3:30 pm Indian time and the second starts at 7:30 pm. Both the matches will be played together in the evening to prevent unfair advantage of either team. BCCI Secretary Jay Shah said in a press release, “For the first time in the history of IPL, the last two league matches before the ‘VIVO IPL 2021’ playoff will be played together.”
According to the schedule, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) will face Mumbai Indians (MI) in one of the last two matches and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) will face Delhi Capitals (DC) in the other. “Instead of having one afternoon match and one evening match on the last day (08.10.2021) of the league phase of the current season, both the matches will be played simultaneously from 7.30 pm (Indian time),” he said.
New teams will be announced on October 25
The two new teams to join the IPL will be announced on October 25, after which the media rights tender for the 2023 to 2027 season will be floated. It is understood that existing rights holders ‘Sony’ and ‘Zee’, which recently merged with Star Sports, will also bid with a huge amount.
Know which cities can meet new teams
The base locations for the new teams include Ahmedabad, Lucknow and Pune. Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad and Ekana Stadium in Lucknow can be the choice of the franchise as these stadiums have more capacity. After the addition of two teams, the number of matches for each team can be increased. Although there is no official confirmation of this yet. So far in the IPL, each team plays a total of 14 home matches in the group stage and seven matches at other venues.
