Former Indian cricket team selector Sarandeep Singh feels it is a huge mistake not to take his ‘best swing bowler’ Bhuvneshwar Kumar for the England tour and Shardul Thakur to be part of India’s 15-man squad for the final of the World Test Championship. was supposed.
Shardul was not part of the 15-man squad, so he could not be included in the playing XI as a fast bowling all-rounder despite the conditions being favorable for fast bowling in Southampton after the rain.
Sarandeep’s tenure came to an end with the victory of the Indian team on the tour of Australia this year. He said it was disappointing not to pick Bhuvneshwar for the WTC final and the five-match Test series against England starting on August 4.
Sarandeep said, “The playing XI was selected two days ago, the presence of two spinners in it was fine. But it should have been changed. Because (after the rain) the conditions had become favorable for fast bowling.”
“You picked two spinners (Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja). Because they could bat. The only fast bowler who can bat is Shardul and he was not even in the 15-man squad. He makes it to the playing XI. Or not, he should have been in the 15-man squad.”
With reference to Bhuvneshwar, who was appointed as the vice-captain of the Indian team for next month’s limited-overs series in Sri Lanka, Sarandeep said the pacer should have been automatically selected in the team touring the UK. “It is a huge mistake not to take Bhuvneshwar to England. He is your best swing bowler and he is not even part of the team,” he said.
Sarandeep said that the time has come to carve someone like Shardul into a fast bowling all-rounder. Because Hardik Pandya is not fit to bowl in the longer format. “You can’t just depend on Hardik. You don’t know when he will be fit to bowl in all formats, so someone like Shardul needs to be groomed or Vijay Shankar or Shivam Dubey is also there,” he said.
Sarandeep hoped that Mohammad Siraj would get a regular chance in the five-match series against England. “There will be rotation in this series. This is the right time to give Siraj a chance and he should play as many matches as he can. He is bowling well. If there is a long gap, he has to be quick with the right line and length. It can be difficult to bowl.”
