MS Dhoni Birthday: Former India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni is celebrating his 40th birthday today. Coming from a small town, Dhoni not only made all the big records of cricket in his name, but he has been ruling the hearts of fans for the last 16 years. Under Dhoni’s leadership, Indian cricket fans got all the happiness that no other captain could have been able to give.
Even after almost a year after saying goodbye to international cricket, Dhoni’s magic towards fans has not diminished. The reason for that is also clear. As soon as Dhoni took over the captaincy of the team in 2007, on the strength of young players, he brought the first T20 World Cup in India’s bag. After this, it was as if the process of India’s progress had just begun. The next year in 2008, Team India managed to become number one in the Test rankings for the first time under Dhoni’s leadership.
Greatest happiness given to India
But the fans were still waiting for Dhoni to get real happiness. Dhoni gave that happiness to the fans in his own special way. On 2 April 2011, at the Wankhede Stadium, as soon as Dhoni sent Kulasekara’s ball across the boundary for 6 runs, the whole country was in joy. The occasion was very special. After a long wait of 28 years, finally Team India again became successful in the World Cup. Even after 10 years have passed, the memories related to that shot are still fresh in the minds of the fans.
However, Dhoni did not get the farewell he deserved in international cricket. In the 2019 ODI World Cup, India had to face defeat at the hands of New Zealand in the semi-finals. Dhoni returned to the pavilion after being run out in that match and then he never wore Team India’s jersey again.
Said goodbye to international cricket in his own style
For almost a year, there were speculations about Dhoni’s return to the team. It was believed that Dhoni would once again be seen playing for India in the 2020 T20 World Cup. But the World Cup was canceled due to the Corona virus epidemic. Dhoni said goodbye to international cricket by issuing a video message on 15 August 2020 in his own style. On the occasion of farewell from international cricket, Dhoni remembered all the players who were his teammates.
Playing last innings
Dhoni is still remembered as the most successful captain of the cricket world. Under Dhoni’s leadership, India managed to win 110 ODIs in 200. In IPL too, Dhoni made Chennai Super Kings the most popular and successful team. Under Dhoni’s leadership, CSK traveled to the finals 8 times and managed to emerge victorious thrice.
Even at the age of 40, Dhoni’s enthusiasm has not diminished at all and he is leading CSK in the IPL. Recovering from last year’s disappointing performance, Dhoni has given new vigor to CSK this year. Dhoni, however, has indicated that after IPL 14, he can completely distance himself from the cricket field.
