Wimbledon 2021: Wimbledon 2021 has seen a big upset on Wednesday. Hubert Harkaz ended the former number one player’s journey by defeating eight-time champion Roger Federer in straight sets. But world number one Novak Djokovic easily managed to make it to the semi-finals.
Federer, who will turn 40 next month, was in the process of his 21st Grand Slam title. But during the entire match, he was not seen giving competition to Harkaj. Poland’s 14th seed Harkaj defeated him 6-3, 7-6(4), 6-0 to enter the semifinals of a Grand Slam event for the first time.
Djokovic defeated unseeded Marten Fuksovic of Hungary 6-3, 6-4, 6-4 at center court. This is the 10th time that he managed to reach the semi-finals of Wimbledon. He entered the last four for the 41st time in Grand Slam tournaments.
Djokovic on his way to set a record
Djokovic will face tenth seed Denis Shapovalov in the semi-finals. The Canadian player defeated 25th seed Karen Khachanov of Russia 6-4, 3-6, 5-7, 6-1, 6-4 in a match that lasted three-and-a-half hours. Shapovalov has reached the semi-finals of a Grand Slam event for the first time.
Djokovic won very easily and is now in the process of equaling Federer and Rafael Nadal’s record by winning his 20th Grand Slam title. The 34-year-old from Serbia has won 19 Grand Slam matches this season and is also on his way to completing the calendar Grand Slam. After Rod Lever (1969), no male player could do this.
Djokovic took a 5-0 lead within 18 minutes against Fuksovic, playing in the Grand Slam quarter-finals for the first time. After this, however, Djokovic lost three games and won the first set at the sixth set point. After this, he did not face any problem in winning the second and third sets.
