Wimbledon 2021: Czech Republic’s Karolina Piliskova performed brilliantly in the second semi-final of Wimbledon 2021 women’s singles. Piliskova made a great comeback after losing the first set and won the semi-final match. Now Piliskova will face number one tennis player Ash Barty in the final of Wimbledon.
Piliskova defeated second seed Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus 5-7, 6-4, 6-4 in a match that lasted one hour and 53 minutes in the semi-finals. Earlier, Australian player Barty defeated 2018 champion Angelique Kerber 6-3, 7-6 (3).
After Kerber lost the first set against Barty, he had a chance to come back in the second set. Kerber was serving for the set at 5-3 but lost her serve at 0-40. After this the set was pulled till the tie-breaker. French Open 2019 winner Barty took a 6-0 lead in the tiebreaker and then registered a win on her fourth match point. Kerber’s backhand was then tangled in the net.
Barty won the junior Wimbledon title in 2011 but was away from tennis for almost two years due to an injury. Barty said, “My career has had many ups and downs, but I haven’t changed my course for a day or a moment.”
Piliskova’s spectacular comeback
In the second semi-final, Sabalenka faced eight break points in the first set but she defended them all. Out of these, he saved four break points on the score of 5-5. She then took advantage of Piliskova’s double fault to win her first set at break point.
Piliskova, however, broke Sabalenka’s serve in the second set to take a 3-2 lead. After this he took a break point in the first game of the third set and then there was no looking back. Piliskova had not lost a single set in the tournament before this match.
