England batsman Ollie Pope suffered a thigh injury while playing for Surrey in the Vitality Blast tournament. Due to this injury, it is difficult for Ollie Pope to play in the opening match of the Test series against India. Ol Pope suffered a thigh injury on July 2 and it is not yet known how long it will take for him to recover.
The England and Wales Cricket Board said in a statement, “Pope has suffered an injury to his left thigh muscle, due to which he will not take the field until the start of England’s LV Insurance Test series against India.”
David Malan may get a chance
The ECB, however, expects Ollie Pope to recover before the second Test. “The fitness teams of the ECB and Surrey will jointly conduct Pope’s rehabilitation, with a focus on his availability for the first Test against India,” the ECB said.
The first Test will begin on August 4 at Trent Bridge. If he does not recover from the injury by this time, then David Malan can be given a chance, who has impressed in England’s limited overs cricket with batting. Apart from this, England can also give a chance to Lawrence or Bairstow as a middle order batsman.
The England team, however, is already in trouble. England’s main fast bowler Jofra Archer will not be a part of the Test series against India. However, in the England team, the return of all-rounder Ben Stokes in the series against India is certain.
