Euro Cup Final: In the final of the Euro Cup, Italy won the trophy after beating England 3-2 in a penalty shootout. After the defeat to England in this exciting match, the fans of the team created a ruckus in the streets. After this, the London Metropolitan Riot Police had to be brought down to control them. Angry football supporters climbed the lamps and many people climbed onto the roof of the buses. Hundreds of police officers were dispatched to clear the crowd, only then the situation was brought under control. After this uproar, the police have arrested 49 people.
After the match, there was chaos at Wembley Stadium in London. The footage showed fans trying to break through the barricade and enter the stadium. A stadium spokesperson issued a statement saying, “A small group violated security at the stadium. We are now working closely with stadium managers and security personnel to remove these people.”
Most of the uproar took place in Pisadilli Circus and Leicester Square in London. The Metropolitan Police tweeted, “We launched a police operation as the Euro 2020 finals neared. Thanks to the thousands of fans who behaved responsibly. We have arrested 49 people for breaking the rules.”
In another tweet, police said, “19 of our officers have been injured due to crowd handling. This is completely unacceptable. Thank you to all our officers in London who contributed to keeping the city safe all night.” Actually this uproar started after the defeat of England. England’s supporters looked quite disappointed after the team’s defeat. Even after 55 years, England could not win any major football title like Euro Cup.
