Roger Federer had earlier missed the 2016 Rio Olympics due to a knee injury. World number one player Novak Djokovic is also not certain to participate in the Olympic Games.
Roger Federer issued a statement informing about his withdrawal from the Olympic Games. Roger Federer said, “I suffered a blow to my knee during the Wimbledon tournament and I have accepted that I should withdraw from the Tokyo Olympic Games.”
Federer is very disappointed because of not participating in the Olympic Games. The former number one player said, “I am very disappointed because whenever I have represented Switzerland, it has been an honor and a highlight of my career. I’ve already started quarantine hoping to return to tour at the end of this summer. I wish all the best to the entire Swiss team.
Djokovic can also step back
Federer lost in the quarter-finals of Wimbledon 2021 that ended on Sunday. The 39-year-old Federer won the gold medal with Stan Wawrinka in the doubles event of the 2008 Olympic Games.
