WhatsApp was asked to provide an explanation before the 25th of this month
The IT ministry has given WhatsApp until May 25 to respond to the notice. The notice states that the company will take all legal action against WhatsApp if it fails to provide a satisfactory response within this period.
“We have a sovereign responsibility to protect the rights and interests of Indian citizens. The government will consider the various possibilities available under the law, ”said a senior official in the IT ministry.
The ministry asked WhatsApp to withdraw the proposed changes and reconsider its stance on information privacy, freedom of choice and data security. “Unilateral changes to WhatsApp Terms of Service and Privacy are not justified or acceptable,” the ministry said at the time.
